I'm not on top of the real world. I don't know what's going on at the best of times, and was surprised to realise that there will be a presidential election next year.
I've never voted, though I'm more than (ahem) old enough. I just don't consider myself educated enough to actually have the right. More than that, while I will occasionally gripe about the current office-holder, I will also acknowledge that the other candidate wasn't worth much more. I may not have the right to vote, by my own opinion, but I do (Constitutionally) have the right to my half-formed opinion, and the parts that I consider relevant to myself and my family, and moreover, if you're in my vicinity, you're likely to be exposed to that (scathing) opinion.
However.
I've been thinking of voting next year. Call it maturity, or perhaps unusual interest, but I don't like where the U.S. government has gone. I don't believe that I can change it, but my radical ideas would take either a full-scale revolution or centuries. Himself loves a conspiracy. Anything on television that's called 'conspiracy', 'UFO' or 'Bigfoot' grabs his attention. I don't. I think it's all quite a bit of overreaction on the part of these conspiracy theorists, and that it isn't necessary to stockpile weapons and canned foods.
I do, however hazy and unformed, have a thought that the government is corrupt and that our children are no longer learning what they need to learn - be that the fault of the government or mere laziness, I cannot decide. I was certainly a lazy student. I believe that most governments are corrupt, despite the noble beginning of our 'democracy', it has begun to wind its way to its end. In the end, I suppose someone will be ready to change it - or else we'll all have become sheep, willing to believe what we're told, particularly if that word 'patriotism' is attached.
To this end, I will do nothing, to be sure. Judging from my own learning experiences at a highly accredited school, I learned very little of any use. I can only hope that other children are fortunate enough to learn how to run their future country, because right now, it's in a sad state, with our constitutional rights suspended here and there... I'm sure it's only temporary. That's what they all say.
And another thing - this fighting dirty, digging up dirt on the opposing candidate so that you look better - not cool. It's childish and underhanded, and it makes me sick.
